Michael Trefny is an attorney, licensed in Texas for over 37 years.   His current practice includes significant estate planning; probate administration and litigation; eminent domain (also called condemnation) litigation including pipeline, TxDoT (highway) and power line right of way negotiation and litigation; oil and gas matters, including lease, pipeline and seismic negotiation and litigation; real estate sales, partition matters and cases, encroachments,  boundary line disputes, easements and other litigation; business organizations formation and transactions; and construction related transactions and litigation. He does not accept criminal or family law matters.

His practice in Houston before moving to Columbus in 2011 focused on litigation and arbitration of Construction Industry disputes, although he has prior experience in a broad range of other areas including bankruptcy, banking, oil and gas, real estate and securities.  He has tried and settled multi-million-dollar cases in State and Federal Courts and arbitrations involving oil and gas, construction, real estate, securities and business torts.  He has briefed and argued cases before the Texas Courts of Appeals resulting in published opinions.  He also has advised clients in drafting and negotiating Purchase and Sale Agreements for the sale of large oil and gas interests, real estate, outdoor advertising assets and other properties.  He also has assisted clients in forming, modifying and merging corporations and partnerships, and negotiating and drafting other incidental agreements.

Michael Trefny grew up on a farm and ranch northeast of Weimar. Upon graduating from Weimar High School, he attended Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas and obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a major in Finance. He then attended the University of Houston Law School, graduating in 1985. Later in 1985, he passed the state bar exam, was licensed as an attorney and began practicing in the Houston area, as well as around the state of Texas.  He now resides on the family ranch which is a Texas Land Heritage property, having been continuously in agricultural use by the same family since 1900.
